Kimberly Guilfoyle: Go Try Out For A Lead Part In A Cheesy Mexican Telenovela. With Your Crazed RNC Convention Speech, You're A Shoe In To Get The Part!

Presidential Election 2020

Kimberly Guilfoyle

I did not watch any of the Democratic or Republican National Convention rubbish.   But, I did read newspaper articles and columns about the events.  Coverage of the RNC Convention in the Wednesday, August 26 San Francisco Chronicle caught my eye.  And really got me shaking my head.

What caught my eye?  Coverage about the over-the-top, crazed speech given by Kimberly Guilfoyle.

For those of you who don't know, Ms. Guilfoyle is the former wife of Gov. Gavin Newsom, the current governor of California and a Democrat.  Guilfoyle is also the current girlfriend of Donald Trump, Jr., as well as a major fundraiser for President Trump's election campaign.

Well, Guilfoyle's speech was apparently a thinly veiled person attack directed at her ex-husband Gov. Newsom.  Also, the speech apparently was so crazy, screaming, and theatrical that this description of the speech in Phil Matier's SF Chronicle Column:
“By the end she was screaming. It was like she was channeling a Disney villain,” said Nate Ballard, who served as press secretary to Gov. Gavin Newsom, Guilfoyle’s former husband, when he was mayor."
Matier's column also stated that  "Guilfoyle slammed the state Newson governs as a “a land of discarded heroin needles in parks, riots in streets and blackouts in homes.”

Ok, Kimberly Guilfoyle.  If you want' personal, I'll give ya personal.  Here is some unsolicited advice to chew on.

(1)  You are a pathetic example for women.  No one likes a screaming, out-of-control, lunatic acting woman.  Take some professional speech/speaking lessons, and for God's sake calm down.   All you are is a prime example of a hysterical woman, the stereotype that women unfairly continue to be labeled because of lunatic crazies like you.

(2)  Just say no to no more plastic surgery and related cosmetic procedures.  And make that a hard no.  You look more plastic-made-up surgically fake than Nancy Pelosi.  And that sayin' a lot.
And while I'm talking about appearances, first off, your hair looks Barbie Doll fake, with a style out of the 1980s.  And your hair color is so unnatural, it reminds me of a dark brown stain and shellac on an antique Hoosier cabinet

(3)  Next on my critique agenda:  Honey, you need a new makeup artist.  As in ASAP.  I'm all into fragrance and makeup, but I don't have 2 pounds of the stuff applied to my face and eyes.  It looks like someone took a red sharpie and painted red on your cheeks.  Just how long did it take you to remove all of that makeup, anyway?

And for the benefit of all women, please publicize what brands of makeup you used for your Convention Speech appearance.  That way, all the rest of us will know what makeup brands NOT to purchase.

(4)  Ditch the uber thick and gross fake fingernails, which went out of style decades ago.  Well, maybe unless you live in Queens, New York, but that's another topic for another day.  But seriously, your fake fingernails look, well, like something a Disney Villain would weae in an animated Disney movie.  Simply put, yoru fake fingernails look gross.  Really gross.

(5)  Lastly, have your future speech/speaking instructor help you get get out of the habit of opening your pie hole up so wide.  Just what are you expecting ... or hoping ... to put into your mouth, anyway?  But now that I think of it, I probably don't want to know.  Ewwww!

Now get to applyin' for a Telenovela lead roll.  With a clip of your convention speech as your audition, you're sure to get the roll.  Then you'll truly be famous and in the spotlight, just like you've always wanted to be.

Politics at it's finest.  Always stuff happening that I couldn't make up!

Wildfire Smoke in the San Francisco Bay Area: PUTRID in Pleasant Hill!

Wildfire Smoke in the San Francisco Bay Area

Well, the dry lightning strikes we experienced a little over a week ago on Sunday, August 16 caused many wildfires throughout Northern California.  The fires continue to rage on, and the air quality in Pleasant Hill where I live is down right putrid and unhealthy.

Here is the Air Quality Index and its ratings for air pollution/particulate matters:

Here is a photo taken from the end of my driveway looking east.  It was taken yesterday afternoon, Sunday, August 23.  Smoke everywhere down to the ground.

When this photo was taken, the PurpleAir air quality sensor nearest my home measured an air quality of 373.  Neighboring Lafayette was actually much worse, given the town's hilly terrain that holds in settled wildfire smoke.  Lafayette had readings as high as 626, and several in the 570s.  What's amazing is that air quality readings above 500 are too high for the Air Quality Index scale.  So Lafayette's readings were literally off the chart!

Today's sun rising at 7:20 AM (Monday, August 24), and a picture taken at the same time looking west.  Air quality was 173 then, improved from the afternoon before due to a nighttime breeze that started late yesterday afternoon.  However, the smoke has continue to get worse over the morning as the breeze died down and stopped.  As I type this at 11:00 AM, the air quality sensors nearest me read 208 and 216.  With the current wildfires expected to burn for "weeks or even months"  according to CAL FIRE officials, we're in for a long haul of smoke.  And the worst of wildfire season is typically in October.

Stay safe everyone.  Remain optimistic, and focus on the positive.

Weather: Blazing Heat During The Day. Heavy Winds, Lightening, And Thunder Early The Next Morning. What Crazy Weather!

Weather

I've always been interested in the weather.  I enjoy following the weather in my Pleasant Hill, CA neighborhood via my backyard weather station.  The read shows up on a vibrant readout in my home office, and uploads onto a cloud-based storage where I can research historical weather.  It really is fun.

So, about the weather ... A blistering heat wave affected much of the area starting Friday, August 14th.  It's due to a lingering high pressure system that's keeping the heat trapped in, coupled by  humidity in the area from a tropical storm.  The high on Friday was 107.2*F at 4:00 PM, with a low of 67.8*F at 5:43 PM.  Saturday was even hotter:  A high of 108.7*F at 4:05 PM, with a low of only 71.6*F at at 6:15 AM.

And Sunday Morning, August 16, really was a wild weather ride!  Crazy!  At 3:30 AM, lightening and thunder started off to the west, moving in closer and closer, with periodic high winds.  This went on constantly until 8:30 AM (!), with a few more bouts of thunder and lightning over the next hour.  And we got a few downpours of rain, measuring 0.05".  Poor Lexi is scared of lightning and thunder, but she help up really well.  I was very proud of my brave Princes Chow-Chow mix.  Good job, Lexi!  (Sid, on the other hand, could have an M80 explode in front of the house and it wouldn't bother him one iota.)

And boy was the humidity was GROSS on Sunday morning.  When Jim and I left with Sid and Lexi for our morning walk, the humidity in the backyard was 72%.   The humidity was even higher early in the morning; 87% at 8:36 AM.

Yet Again, More Electricity Woes in California

Also on Friday, August 14, the California Electricity Grid operators ordered utility companies to start rolling blackouts, blaming the "widespread and prolonged heat wave impacting the state".  I swear, the agencies and people running this state are incompetent Dummkopfs!   We haven't lost power in these rolling blackouts, but on Saturday (August 16), 220,000 PG&E customers were without power.  Supposedly "most" customers had power restored in 2.5 hours.  But no electricity in this heat?!  I swear, the utility systems in this state are equivalent to those of a third world country.

Here are some photos of what the high winds did around our home.  We did not experience any power (electricity) outages, but there were many outages scattered around the area.  When I looked at the PG&E power outage map Sunday morning at 10:30, some people had been without power since about 4:30 AM.  Not fun.

Branch fell right in front of Jim's Toyota Tundra!
Glad he was parked where he was, and not a few feet up.
That branch sure would have left a mark on the truck!

Patio table umbrella blown out into the backyard.

A mean looking sky on Sunday morning, August 16.
Just shows you that you never can tell what Mother Nature is going to do.  Stay safe and healthy, everyone!

Joe Biden: Just Return To Your Basement Bunker, And Stay There Until November 3. And For God's Sake ... SHUT UP!

Joe Biden

Kamala Harris

2020 Presidential Election

COVID-19

Ok, let's clear the air.  I'm no Trump fan.  I'm no Biden fan, either.  This November, I'll likely do the same write-in vote for President as I did in November 2016:  Mickey Mouse.

But that's neither here nor there.  But, I do have some unsolicited advice for Joe Biden.

Return To Your Basement Bunker.
Stay There Until November 3.
And for God's Sake:  Just SHUT UP in the meantime!

Biden recently committed yet another one of his all-too-common speaking gaffes he's so well known for.  He called for a National Mask Mandate, saying:
“Every single American should be wearing a mask when they're outside for the next three months at a minimum.”
Does Biden even think one iota about what comes out of his pie hole?  Apparently not.  Because what he says above is that people should wear a mask when they are outside.  Period.

That's plain foolish crazy talk, and belittles the public health need now for people to wear mask for COVID-19 protection.  So Biden think I need to wear a mask outside while gardening or walking my dogs, with no one other than my husband Jim near me.  Any medical expert would say that wearing a mask in that situation is completely unnecessary.

Yet Biden says nothing ... NOTHING ... about wearing a mask inside, such as office buildings, grocery stores, medical offices, businesses, etc.   So I guess Biden thinks it is a-ok for a person to not wear a mask when grocery shopping, when shopping at your local Walgreens, or when visiting your bank.  That's downright crazy thinking.

And what's with the 3-month long timeframe Biden selected?  That takes us to November.  So, has Biden has also got sucked into believing one of the many conspiracy theories floating around about COVID-19:  That COVID-19 is mysteriously going to go away on November 4, following election day.  That's downright crazy thinking, too.

Joe Biden:  I think you've got some cognitive issues going on in your head, and it ain't pretty.  Really.  As in you've got an enlarging growth of cobwebs in your head.  And you really should get that checked out pronto.

I think my husband Jim coined it right about Kamala Harris, Biden't choice for a running mate.  He said that Harris will likely spend most of her time cleaning up Biden's ongoing verbal gaffes and missteps.

I concur.  And from the way things looks, she has a big job ahead of her completing that task.

Trupanion Pet Insurance: Don't Waste Your Money On This Worthless Pet Medical Insurance.

Trupanion Pet Insurance Complaints

The tag line should read:
"No medical insurance for your pet
because we won't pay your claims, Sucker!"
Repost from 2016 about worthless Trupanion Medical Pet Insurance.  This was originally posted on April 13, 2016 and has been one of my most visited posts since then.  Unfortunately, from recent research on the internet about Trupanion complaints, the post clearly holds true today, more than 4 years later.  Don't waste your money on Trupanion's worthless pet medical insurance!

~~  Originally posted on April 13, 2016  ~~

When we adopted our dogs Husky-mix Sid  (in late Sept. 2014) and Chow-mix Lexi (in late Oct. 2014) we decided to purchase pet health insurance from Trupanion.  The coverage seemed to have improved since we looked at it (but didn't purchase) for our late Chow-mix Titus.  We provide our dogs with the best veterinary care possible, and knowing what costs can be (Titus had 2 TPLO surgeries and also surgery and chemotherapy treatment for canine cancer) thought it prudent to purchase coverage for catastrophic events.

Boy.  Were We Wrong.

Our Trupanion policy supposedly ... and I stress the word supposedly ... provided coverage for 90% of of vet costs, excluding ordinary and routine care including exams, following a $1000 deductible.  The most recently monthly premium for both dogs (currently about 4 years and 3.5 years old) was $54.40.

Sid the Dog snoozes in "his room" (a guest room) on a rainy Spring 2016 afternoon.

Lexi relaxes in the back yard on a glorious Spring 2016 afternoon.

We didn't file any Trupanion claims for Lexi, but we did file claims for Sid.  While Sid's claims did not meet the $1000 deductible, we wanted to get claims started in the event the conditions manifested to need additional care that would meet the deductible.  For three claims - the last one being this week, when we threw our hands up in the air and cancelled the coverage to avoid more money going down the drain - Trupanion denied the claims.  Reason?  Sid had an infection in 1 ear when we adopted him from the local county animal shelter.  We treated it, it cleared up in 2-3 weeks.  Our 3 claims involved separate and distinct acute infections, yet Trupanion insisted that since Sid had an ear infection prior to coverage, that infections were pre-existing conditions and not covered.  Claims denied.  (And by the way, I am a licensed insurance agent and insurance analyst, and have worked with insurance matters, including insurance coverage and claims, since 1988.)

No kidding.  Infections ... unrelated, newly-onset infections ... not covered because Sid happened to have an ear infection more than 18 months before that was treated then and completely cleared up within 2-3 weeks.   We could see the writing on the wall that Trupanion will do whatever they can to deny a claim.  Surely the same would have held true with Lexi, they likely would have denied claims tying some connection to her prior neglect and abuse, or her surgically-removed fractured lower canine teeth.

A quick search on the Internet reveals many similar complaints from both current and former Trupanion Pet Insurance policyholders.  Denied claims time and time again.

Don't waste your money on Trupanion Pet Insurance.

If you have pets, don't waste your money on Trupanions' worthless pet insurance.  Based on our experience and that of many other pet owners, the policy premiums are (or were) simply money down the drain.  Set the money aside for the day when you need it for unexpected pet veterinary needs.  Don't expect Trupanion to be there when you need them, although they will gladly take your premium money each month.

California Insurance Complaints

If you live in California, are a Trupanion Pet Insurance policyholder, and believe all or part of a claim has been wrongfully denied, you may have the matter reviewed by the California Department of Insurance:
California Department of Insurance
Consumer Services and Market Conduct Branch, Claims Services Bureau,
300 South Spring Street
Los Angeles, CA 90013
Phone:  800-927-4357

You can also file an online complaint with the California Department of Insurance.

Once again, another life lesson learned with help from my Faithful Canine Companions!

"Crazy Good Dishwasher Salmon" Recipe. It's Crazy All Right!

 "Cook" Salmon in Your Dishwasher

Ok, this "recipe" is just plain nuts.  Crazy!  I recently came across a recipe for salmon.  And just not any recipe, no siree.  This salmon is "cooked" in your dishwasher.  I'm not kidding.

The recipe is called "Crazy Good Dishwasher Salmon" (you can find it here, there are similar recipes on the Internet).  It calls for wrapping a salmon fillet tightly in foil, placing it on the top rack of an empty dishwasher, and running a cycle (no dishes, no soap) with hot water and heat dry.  Supposedly the salmon is the the "crazy good" to eat.

I'd say that anyone cooking salmon like this is just plain crazy!  I actually thought the recipe was a joke when I first saw it.

My Former Dishwasher Space
Repurposed as a Cabinet

Better Use For A Dishwashing Machine
Remove It And Replace With A Cabinet!

Oh, I actually have a better use for a dishwashing machine.  Get rid of the dang thing and replace the area with an open cabinet with heavy duty shelving to store commonly used bakeware and dishes.

That's what I did and I love it!  (See picture.)  Would never, ever have a dishwashing machine again.  And plus, my dishes, pots, and pans get much cleaner with hand washing than they ever did in the dishwashing machine.

Good and Yummy News! My Favorite Reed Avocados and Dry Farmed Tomatoes are in Season! And Beyond Supremely Delicious!

Reed Avocados
Dry Farmed Tomatoes
Diablo Foods

My posts from now on are going to focus on positive events and good news, and just plain fun and happy stuff as much as possible.  There's enough negativity and plain out craziness spewing around, what with the COVID-19 deniers, and the gagging politics associated with the November elections and current economic events in the United States.  Looters ... or Liberators, as they now call themselves ... destroying whole sections of major metropolitan areas.   Violent protesters,  protesting who knows what.  I mean, if your actions are violent, are your truly a protester?  Nope.  You're a plain old, common thug.

The final straw for me was when I saw a social media post after my brother Joe's August 5th funeral (you can read about Joe's death and find a link to his obituary in this blog post), posted publicly by a relative to Joe via his former marriage.  Regarding Joe and his death from COVID-19, the post said "Sometimes you gotta say it was fun while it lasted.  And get the f*ck on with your life."

I would never have a second of time, care, empathy, or sympathy for a person who would post such a cruel, selfish comment.  That type of person is downright pathetic.  Plain putrid.  Loser!

Anyhoo ... my optimism will prevail!  Onward with some good stuff!

So today, we're going to talk about a topic that means so much to me in my cooking and meal planning:  Seasonal Produce.  And I've got Good News!  Two of my favorite seasonal produce selections are available now at my local grocer, Diablo Foods in Lafayette, CA.

And I'm talking about the most fabulous Reed Avocados and Dry Farmed Tomatoes.  Reed Avocados are larger than the typical Hass Avocado.  Reeds have a buttery, delicious flavor and are unique in that the fruit does not turn brown when cut open.

Dry Farmed Tomatoes are a deep red colored small tomato, about twice the size of a traditional Cherry Tomato.  As the name says, they are, well, dry farmed.  These fab tomatoes have firm yet juicy flesh, and a sweet tomato taste that just bursts with flavor!

Reed Avocados at Diablo Foods.
The selection of Dry Farmed Tomatoes is just showing off to the left.

Both of these wonderful produce items are delicious to eat by themselves, in salads, and in sandwiches.  Do try Reed Avocados and Dry Farmed Tomatoes if you can find them!

Optimism: It Actually May Be Good For Your Health and Longevity!

Optimism.

I believe optimism is particularly important nowadays, particularly with the current .. and ever seemingly changing ... issues related to the COVID-19 Pandemic.  And, as I've said before ...

But noooo, the press and our governmental organizations aren't relaying that message.  Instead we continue to have different COVID-19 advice, information, and regulatory orders thrown at us ... some of it conflicting ... from various governmental organizations and medical experts.  If you are paying attention to all of this, it's enough to drive anyone to the Loonie Farm!

But don't fret!  There are simple steps you can take to remain optimistic in even the most trying times, including simply stepping back and putting matters and events into perspective.

Here's a New York Times article on the topic:  How to Be More Optimistic.

But wait, there's more.

Do you know studies have shown that being optimistic can not only improve your health but also lead to a longer, more fulfilling life?

Here's a New York Times article on the topic:  Looking on the Bright Side May Be Good for Your Health.

And in the meantime ... Don't just stay positive, be positive!  Stay healthy and well, everyone.

Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Is On: A Bonehead Award Goes To Ignorant And Foolish South Dakota Gov. Krisi Noem!

COVID-19
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
Bonehead Award

I about choked on my Avocado Toast at breakfast this morning when I read in the San Francisco Chronicle that, in spite of the COVID-19 Pandemic and surging COVID cases in South Dakota, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is still going to be held this month from August 7 - August 16.

And for that,  I am awarding a Bonehead Award to the ignorant, foolish, and downright dangerous Krisi Noem, the Boneheaded Governor of South Dakota.

You see, Bonehead Gov. Krisi Noem couldn't just rest her COVID-19 laurels on her non-masked, non-social distancing beyond foolish July 4 celebration at Mt. Rushmore.   Nope.  She's got to up the ante and allow some 225,000 people to ride their motorcycles into Sturgis for 9 days of non masked, no social distancing, crowded shoulder-to-shoulder partying.

South Dakota is Already a Surging COVID-19 Hotspot

According to today's New York Times, South Dakota is already one of the COVID-19 hot spots in the country with among the highest increased surges in COVID-19 cases.  The newspaper reported this morning that "At least 1 new coronavirus death and 88 new cases were reported in South Dakota on Aug. 2. Over the past week, there have been an average of 80 cases per day, an increase of 38 percent from the average two weeks earlier."

Any person with the IQ of a gnat can figure out what's going to happen when 225,000 motorcyclists roll into Sturgis later this week.  It's really downright simple.  COVID-19 is going to spread within the 225,000 Sturgis attendees.  Those who become infected will then take the virus home with them throughout the United States.  Potentially infecting people they encounter on their rides home, and for sure infecting people when they get home.  Because you know if these 225,000 people are not concerned about a mass gathering with no masks and no social distancing at Sturgis, they for sure are not concerned about it at home.

Republican Politicians:  COVID-10 Isn't About Politics.  It's About Public Health.  Duh!

I simply don't understand the Republican governors and other Republican politicians that are willing to risk the health and lives of their constituents during this COVID-19 Pandemic.   Wearing a mask, social distancing, minimizing shopping and errand trips, and avoiding crowds isn't about politics.  It isn't about freedom.  It isn't about liberty.  IT'S ABOUT PUBLIC HEALTH AND NOT SPREADING COVID-19, A VERY DANGEROUS AND, AT TIMES, DEADLY VIRUS.   DUH!
How many more people have to become infected with COVID-19 before the Republican politicians comprehend that simple fact?  How many more people have to become severely ill with COVID-19, and recover but are left to suffer lifelong debilitating heart, lung, kidney, blood vessel, and/or neurological problems?  How many more people have to die from COVID-19 before Republican politicians comprehend that simple fact?
Wearing a mask in public hasn't changed a thing for me, including wearing my favorite Chanel lipstick or lipgloss.  I haven't lost my freedom or my liberties.   Just three really simple practices save lives during this COVID-19 Pandemic:  (1) wearing a mask in public, (2) social distancing, and (3) washing your hands.  Is that too much to ask of people?

Some of the political "leadership" in this country isn't leadership at all.  As in the case of South Dakota Gov. Krisi Noem and other like-minded politicians, they bring no leadership to their constituents.  They are, however, downright dangerous and pathetic people.

Happy 10th Birthday Lexi!  My Sweet and Forever Faithful Companion.  Lexi survived severe abuse and neglect in her prior life in a backyard puppy mill.  She was one of  dogs seized by police in August 2014 for severe abuse and neglect, and the only dog to survive.

We adopted Lexi as soon as she became available in October 2014 (following criminal proceedings for her animal abuse case).  lexi was skinny, thin furred, and terrified of most everything then, but with love and patience, blossomed into a wonderful, happy, and healthy Canine Companion.  Take a look at her 2014 photo, and today!  Would you ever think these are the same dogs?
